There are three main holiday resorts to enjoy your holiday in Lanzarote. was a purpose built holiday resort . Man made beaches are common in the many coves. The resort has gradually spread along the coast as increased numbers of holiday visitors descended on the island. The first golf course on Lanzarote was sited here and the northern part of the island is nearer the attractions of Cesar Manrique. Accommodation in Costa Teguise ranges from 5 star hotels to one bedroomed apartments in holiday complexes with communal pools. There are also many private villas and holiday apartments to be rented out and some eco friendly rural fincas too. Families are well catered for here in the Costa Teguise with international cusine in the restaurants and family themed attractions in the immediate area .Playa Cucharas is the main beach in Costa Teguise and is ideal for windsurfing, indeed wind surfing championships take place here every year. There is also Playa Bastian and Playa Jabillo. There is always something to do here for the whole family.
was the second holiday resort to be developed and now forms the largest and busiest resort area on Lanzarote, Situated 15 minutes south of Lanzarote airport at Arrecife,Puerto del Carmen was centred on the old fishing village of the same name. The holiday resort has now spread to the very edges of the airport to include the resort areas of Matagorda and Playa Pocillos. There are dozens of restaurants of all styles along the main esplanade and the beach at Playa Grande is very busy most year round. The promenade area is fairly level but there is quite a steep incline to the second and third line hotels and complexes especially in the middle of the town.
is the third holiday resort on the island to be developed. Situated at the very southern tip of the island Playa Blanca now stretches some 6 miles from the Lighthouse at Pechiguera beyond the new Marina Rubicon to Los Colarades. A paved walkway now stretches the entire length of the resort, perfect for that early morning jog. Most of the restaurants and bars are to be found in the centre of the resort nearer to the town beach but there are now lots of new eateries in the Marina Rubicon area as well as designer shops and the weekly market takes place here too. There`s no better place to enjoy your holiday in Lanzarote than taking a meal at many marina side restaurants whilst enjoying the views of the Lanzarote sunshine and the magnificent yachts moored in the marina.
There are also some smaller resort areas of a more specialized nature such as La Santa a purpose built sports holiday complex on the west coast of the island and Puerto Calero which is a small up market development based round a marina just outside Puerto del Carmen. The island is also dotted with small white washed villages where you can stay in private villas or apartments. Tias is just outside Puerto del Carmen looking down from the hillside. Oasis de Nazaret is a relaxing village with luxurious villas to be rented. Caleta de Famara is a magnet for surf lovers and can be found just north of La Santa right under the highest point on Lanzarote and is the largest beach on the island although beware, strong curents strip the sand in the winter so expect to find a rocky foreshore if you take your holiday at this time of the year.
