Lanzarote Car Hire

Whilst there are plenty of organised trips to all the major tourist attractions on the island I would definitely hire a car in Lanzarote for at least two or three days minimum. Nothing beats the convenience and flexibility that hiring a car adds to your holiday experience.The main roads on Lanzarote are excellent and well marked. It is easy to get round the island as it is only 30 miles from north to south.Hiring a car gives you more flexibility and freeedom to go where you want when you want. Car hire in Lanzarote is easy. All you need, as in all the Canary Islands, is your ordinary UK licence and passport to hire a car.You have to be at least 21 but some companies will insist 23 or even 25. and remember if you are taking children they must be in seat belts and are not allowed to travel in the front passenger seat if under 12 without a restraint.Usual traffic conditions apply here as in mainland Spain.Keep your hire documents and passport with you at all times and beware of police radar traps.Fines are instant if stopped by Police. There are very few traffic lights, traffic at junctions mainly controlled by roundabouts.Remember to give way to traffic from your LEFT in roundabouts

Car hire in Lanzarote is generally cheaper than in mainland Spain but you will also save money as trips are rather expensive through the tour companies.You can gain access to the Timanfaya National Park for about 15 euros plus 3 euros if you want to go on a Camel safari. An organised trip to the Timanfaya Park would cost you about 50+ euros EACH!
All the usual car hire companies are in Lanzarote in the main resorts. Europcar, Hertz etc. Autoreisen are good value and there are other local firms which although restricted in vehicle choice are very competetive on price. Most hire companies on Lanzarote provide the car with an almost empty tank and expect the car back with the same amount.So dont lose out on petrol costs.
