.Lanzarote has over 90 beaches of varying sizes, shapes and colours. There are the fine whitish sand of Papagayo beaches East of Playa Blanca. There are black lava sands such as Janubio. There are black gravelly sands such as Playa Quemada. There are black boulder strewn sands as in the coastline on the west at El Golfo. Fine golden sands almost desert like on Graciosa, Playa de La Concha There are also man made beaches with sand brought in from the Sahara.. There are commercial beaches right in front of hotels some with their own private enclaves. There are out of the way secluded coves where you may not see anyone at all. There are gently sloping beaches with calm waters lapping the shore as in Playa Flamingo and there are ferocious beaches where strong undercurrents cause great surf as in Famara on the North West coast of the island. One thing is for sure there are beaches for every ones taste in Lanzarote. There is a constant wind blowing on these islands which if you are a first time visitor you must beware of. The wind usually takes away some of the relentless heat of the sun in high summer but dont be fooled , especially if you have children. The combination of sun and wind can be lethal. Make sure your children have all the sun protection they need. Also dont think you are safe as an adult. Sometimes you can get the wind coming in from the Sahara and it is especially hot so again take notice of local weather conditions. You have spent hard earned cash getting that break in the sun in Lanzarote you need so make certain it isnt ruined .
